Huh? My thoughts exactly when I saw this building for what would be the location of a MTV shoot Maluca was doing in downtown Austin for my first day at SXSW. Believe me I thought it was a setup to, till I saw the inside…

So later on that night we headed over to the Complex X Ray Ban party at Republic Live and all I have to say is poor doorman. Sabel & Oscar (two New York Club veterans) made sure to flip the script on him and let myself and a group of other friends in to a party with a closed list and a alleged $65(?!) dollar door cover. And with vip wrist bands might I add. I watched it first hand and still don’t know how they did it. Although if you did pay I’m sure you got your moneys worth. Atrak and the Fool’s Gold team did there thing. Especially Dj Kingdom who I’ve seen spin atleast a handful of times and still can’t name any of the records he plays yet still I still manage to like his sets.

After that was whataburger which I’m sure has been said before in the past but doesn’t that logo look a lot like the old wwf logo?

Day 2/3 I had a chance to checkout some showcases/venues (Levi’s Fader | Hype Machine | etc.) to which I had pictures to but of course I lost my phone and the pictures in it. Amazing I know but what I get for being irresponsible. Showcases where dope but there was a particular one that I won’t name but reminded me why I hate most live rap shows. Every single performer just screamed in the mic while the unmastered track with full vocals played louder then the vocals. And of course don’t forget yourmansandem who was on the second mic screaming the ad libs at me as well. Of course I followed up the artist listed on the bill and found some quality music but the whole live show was just bad. Rap music we must do better at live shows it’s an important part of how most artist earn money and you should treat it that way.

Later on, on my last day in Austin it was the Mad Decent x Jelly Carniville with Major Lazer & Maluca performing. First of all I’ll said it once and I’ll say again I can bet money that the way this idea was thought up was by what I believe was a group of organizers who were sitting around high one day thinking “you know what would be great, instead of a regular festival we should mix the performances with a state fair.” and unlike your high ideas that fizz out the moment your sober, this one actually came through. And well put together might I add. Diplo & Skerrit Bwoy (sans Switch) went in the Major Lazer set and had the whole crowd rocking in what was freezing Austin weather. Seriously it was terrible that Saturday. I heard there was even snow in neighboring Texas cities.

Ease from Miska backstage at the Carniville. I said whattup up to Ease for about five minutes and he just stared into space. If he was on something that night must have been amazing.

Finally Maluca went on after Major Lazer and did the damn thing to a crowd that waited in the freezing cold for god knows how long to see her perform. Great way to end my trip to Austin.
Till next year,
Deemehlow.
BTW since once again I did lose my phone and I was running around the whole time the order of these events might be a little off. But close enough.

So pardon for the late response but from last Wednesday to maybe about last night I have been averaging about 3.5 hours of sleep from consistently going out and havn’t really had a chance to post. But seeing as I had a free moment right now figure I would give a quick recap of Oscar’s party at the Rivington hotel. Party kind of started of kind of shakey towards the beginning since I was feeling kind of off from the previous night’s debauchery and was getting what I felt like was a weird reaction from some folks. (I promise you it’s crap when you hear nothing but positive reviews from a dj towards there own sets, we all have our off night) but after I started warming up and passed on the torch to DJ Brooklyn Dawn I got to admit I had me a blast. Lots of guests came threw that night came threw Johnny Killeface, Tommy, Theophilis London, Vashtie, Hyun from LTD (who I finally had the chance to meet and put a face behind the name) Sabel, the twin towers plus countless others to show the kid Oscar love and def felt good to see some familiar faces.
Also I got into numerous conversations about my giving up twitter for lent and it’s pretty hilarious seeing peoples reaction to me giving it up since they know how much of a fiend I am for it but I assure you I havn’t used it once since. People go thru much harder sacrifices in life and if you can’t give up a simple site for 40 days (or whatever your vice is for lent) then I don’t know what to tell you.

So imagine if the place you call cheers every friday, was flipped around and turned into concert hall with a room full of screaming fans… Well that was the case this Friday where I joined Miss Maluca Mala along side the cookies (Oscar & Sabel) with Amanda Blank & company to tear up Santos Party House. I’ve waited patiently for the chance to try out that main floor sound system and damn it did not disappoint. I’ve done plenty of shows with Maluca and besides the one I saw at the box this probably was the best show she’s done. Afterwords joined Dj Soul, Just Blaze & Regular Charles for their regular scheduled Friday party and thanks to the music and that good number of Vodka Cranberries night turned out a circus. Much respect to them and the rest of the crew. Till the next.
